A way of defining a Musical Instrument is anything that can produce a sound. This term is often used for instruments that have a particular place in a band or orchestra. Organology is known as the study of musical instruments.
Musical instruments are identified by the tone they generate in the way they are played. Electronic instruments played by touch the keys while wind instruments generate a tone using the power of the lungs, and string instruments require the action of strumming. Using the effort of your lungs and vocal cords to create a sound through your voice can also be termed a musical instrument.
Wood or brass are usually the choice for wind instruments. A good example is the flute which originally was made of wood and the trumpet which is made of brass. When the user blows through a tube it produces a sound. There are usually holes in the instrument that is covered with the user's fingers, by opening and closing these holes with his fingers it produces different kinds of sound.
The playing of string instruments is completely different. String instruments are played by strumming chords and by varying the length of chords produce different sounds. A perfect example of a string instrument is the guitar.
Percussion instruments are instruments that are struck to produce a certain sound. This sound is determined by the cavity in which the sound is produced in the material that is being struck. A excellent example of a Percussion Instrument is a drum. The drum is used worldwide by bands and orchestras and even some primitive tribal organizations.

By breathing in different ways and tightening muscles a singer can create a wide range of voices and sounds. The sound of the singers voice can have great power over the listening audience. In some cases the singer can take the audience cry or laugh just by changing how his or her voice sounds.
