Can I plug a 7amp power cord from a TV into a 1ft long 13amp extension cord safely?
I want to plug my TV into a UPS but the cord is about 6" short, so I bought a 1ft long extension cord that is rated at 13 amps. Both cord are 125v. I just want to make sure I won't fry anything by doing this.
Yes. If the extension cord was rated for less than 7 amps (highly unlikely) then there would be a risk of it overheating. Devices like heaters and air conditioners that use lots of power, or power strips with many different things connected to them, are where you really have to be careful. As a rule, never use an extension cord that is rated for less amperage than the device it is connected to.
