How do you achieve this lighting effect?
It's actually really simple; like when in a picture or video the background is black and the person in the shot is lighted, so they're the only thing there. I've seen it in a few music videos, and professional pictures. I want to do this effect, but I'm not sure if you need certain lighting or just a black background. I also want to make sure the lighting is even so there aren't shadows or unlighted parts of the person.

You need a black background and in order to assure even lighting, you'll need a film/TV traditional lighting setup.
1. Light one is your key light. That's a light in front of the subject and it's the brightest light you have.
2. Light two is your backlight. That's a light behind the subject to separate the foreground object (you) from the background (your black background). This should be less bright by far than the key light.
3. Light three is your fill light. This is a light also from the front, but at a different angle and less bright than either the key or backlights.
You don't have to be that exact with any of the lights, and you'll probably want to play around with the angle and positioning to make sure it's right. The biggest issues are to make sure you're getting a good separation from the black background (particularly if you're wearing black or have dark skin or hair) with the backlight and fill and that you're not flaring/whiting out the camera with those lights.
