Would a 9-volt battery to a dimmer switch, to a quarter-inch mono output, to a guitar amplifier sound cool?
Just to clarify, I want to solder both nodes to a dimmer switch and see if I can't by pass it to a female 1/4 inch guitar cable jack. Then I was going to run it into an amp and see if it makes a cool noise shortly before I ruin a perfectly good piece of music equipment.
If not, what would I need between the battery and the guitar cable to make it work.
That is an interesting question. At it's most basic function, the pickups on an electric guitar are a magnet that convert the vibrations of a guitar string into a gentle electric current, which then gets amplified in the electronics of the guitar amp and sent to the speaker. However, the different notes aren't defined by a difference in the strength of the signal, it is the difference of wavelength of the electric current.
So, if you were to successfully hook up a nine volt battery to a quarter inch jack, and then run it in to a guitar amp, at best what you could probably hope for is a high pitched squeal. The dimmer switch may adjust the volume of the squeal, but I can't imagine that it will change the pitch.
But really, I have no idea. If you try it and it works, post the results online somewhere, I'd be curious to know what happened.
