How can I get a louder sound from Drum Mics?

Okay, so I have Peavey PVM DMS-5 drum mics running into a Behringer Eurorack UBB1002 mixer that runs into a Boss BR-900 CD recorder..and whenever I record my drums, it's always too quiet! Am I missing something? I don't want to turn up the gain on the mixer otherwise it might get clipped etc. If you guys can help me out at all with this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

There could be a few things going on.

The first step is to adjust the "trim" or "gain" knob (the knob nearest the mic connector) so that You Are lighting up the "peak" lights only on signal peaks. You will have to adjust each channel trim individually.

After that the rest is pretty easy - make sure the individual channel knob or fader is up at zero db and make sure the output master knob or fader is up to zero db. You should be getting a really good level out of the mixer at this point. You may need to back off the input level on the Boss but only enough so that it does not clip. You should record at a really good level just below clipping - that will ensure that you will have the loudest signal possible with the least noise.
